Flu shots
3rd-Dec-2012 09:59 pm [flu, vaccination]
I'm 28 weeks right now. Should my OB be my go-to for getting my flu shot? Flu season is starting particularly early in my area (and happens to be quite bad this year) and with my children all in elementary school this year, I think we're going to all get vaccinated.

I think I've only ever gotten a flu shot once or twice in my life, so I'm not even sure where to go to have it done.

My OB (well, one of the nurses, but after one of my OB appointments) gave me a flu shot last fall, when I was pregnant. This year my GP did it. I'd tagged along for my husband's appointment and she did both of ours on the spot.

Great! Thank you. Did you need to make an extra appointment for that? I know when I called to schedule my kids' well check ups, I was told I needed to make a separate appointment for their flu shots. Greaaaaat.

For the OB? Nah, I just mentioned it when I was already there and she had the nurse bring it in.

With both pregnancies I got my flu shot at my OB's. It was particularly nice in 2009, when there was a vaccine shortage and I didn't have to wait in a long line at the flu shot clinic. This was two different practices, but I'm sure it still varies by OB.

It is hard to get out of my OB's office without a flu shot. A few appointments ago they got it ready for me without even asking if it was something that I wanted (which I did, so it was alright).

I got mine at Wal-Mart for $25.

You can get it at your OB, GP, or practically any pharmacy.

Got mine at my OB once I was out of Tri1. Did it at my 14W appt. Super easy!

I just get my shot at the pharmacy. My insurance won't cover it that way, but it saves so much time, and after subway fare and doctor copay it's only like $15 more anyway. Other than insurance, it doesn't matter who you get it from as long as you get the shot and not the nasal spray.

In my first pregnancy (2009), I got the H1N1 shot from my OB's office, but they left the regular flu shot up to me. I always get them at my pharmacy (Walgreens).

My OB did it at my confirmation appointment. Asked her if it was safe to get and she replied with "Sure, you want one now?" 5 minutes later, it was done.

Got the flu shot and tdap booster at my midwife's a couple of weeks ago. I asked and it was done that appt.

I have been getting a flu shot since I first got pregnant in 2006. Even when breastfeeding. I made my husband get vaccinated this year because we have a 4 month old...

My OB's office offers it and does not require a separate appointment, but I wasn't sure my insurance would cover it if I got it there. I ended up getting mine at CVS at 39 weeks.
