I am 3 cm dilated @ 50% - is it safe to go public swimming and not risk infection due to chlorine?

-uncomplicated pregnancy with no risk factors.

It's fine. I think the issue is if your waters have broken.

is it possible that it could break in the water? (totally curious here)

It could be, but generally you'd start having wicked contractions after that would happen.

my waters broke while I was having a bath at home, so I would say yes.

Oh really, did you notice it breaking while you were in the water?

I sort of felt a gush, though that was muted in the water. It felt a little like I had lost control of my bladder. But having just been to the toilet before the bath I knew it wasn't. I did climb out of the bath rather confused, but then as I cramped I had another gush, which is very apparent what it is when you are standing, and it rather made it apparent what was going on.

Oh wow really.. Thanks for the info.

BTW, wicked contractions do *not* happen immediately after membranes rupture for everyone. My water broke at 18 weeks and I had ZERO contractions until 4 days later when I was induced. I was also induced at 39 weeks (2nd baby) and contractions started about 2.5 hours after my water broke.

Yeah, I went swimming when I was pregnant the first time but I wasn't dilated then. Thank you!

I swam up until my induction with my 2nd with no issues. I was dilated to 2 cm and 80% for weeks. I think the last time I went swimming was the day before he was born.

Yes, it's safe.

Some people don't even know that they're dilated and go swimming. (I never get checked, and worked at a pool until the day before I went into labor with my first.)

I was swimming 6 days after my due date last time, no idea if I was dilated or anything, but probably? I didn't think twice about it.

if your waters are intact you should be fine - the water should help to take the weight off your joints and back for a bit

Yeah I swam a lot throughout the first pregnancy. I just wasn't sure if being dilated had anything to do with the possibility of exposing the risk of infection.
